An Interview with Carol Harris-Fike, NCC*

Q: Why did you choose professional coaching as a new career?
A: I "coached" leaders for 30+ years and, oh yeah, I lived life for 50+ years... so far!! Professionally, until
2005, I was a public school teacher, principal, and administrator coaching teachers, parents, principals, and others. Over
time... a long time... I learned to handle the stress and give through my heart each day, no matter the current crisis. Personally,
I went through a loss of a child, divorce, remarriage, and other life experiences, common and uncommon. I learned that every
life challenge was really personal. When a person can observe the challenge from a different place... in a different way...
transformation can occur because possibilities for different actions appear. I learned that we all have a choice in every
action we take. Most importantly, I learned it was a choice to "let go" and live the life I am here to live.
Q: What is your focus as a coach?
A: My work is mainly with people in transition... change in careers or relationships, retirement, or lifestyle. I support
people who want to (finally) let go and live the life they are here to live.
Q: What is your approach to working with your clients?
A: My work is ALL about my clients... never me. My job is to listen with my inner ear... (or is it my inner eye??), ask
the difficult, challenging questions, declare the breakthroughs, and be there, always, to support the client's work with ideas
for practices and actions that will lead to the transformation of whatever. Clients come to my office or call me on the phone
for hour long coaching sessions. I usually work with a particular client for three to six months, (always negotiable). Periodically,
I offer workshops where I use my coaching skills within a group setting. I also work with teams within organizations to accomplish
specific goals.
Q: What are some of your accomplishments as a professional coach?
A: I have supported clients in making shifts by observing how they live life and make choices. This has lead to transformation
in how they see life situations. One client saved $30,000 by discovering that she could make a career of what she already
knows rather than pursuing one more degree. Another client is taking giant steps in relating with people in ways she never
has before... ways that are leading to lasting relationships in her life. Still another client is dealing with a very difficult
family situation and even having fun with it along the way; at last she is at peace.
Q: What is your educational background and training?
A: First of all, I'm a SWTW, a Strong West Texas Woman. West Texas women have to be strong; it takes it to live on that
land!!?? I now live in beautiful western Colorado, and it takes strength to live in the mountains, also. My degrees come from
Texas Tech University and Texas University at Austin. They include a B.S. of Education and a M.A. in Administration…
and LIFE. My coaching training is from Newfield Network, Inc. in Boulder, CO (under graduate and graduate programs) and from
LIFE.
Q: What other interests have added to your knowledge and skills as an ontological coach?
A: I am a Reiki Master/Teacher which opens me for possibilities to be a channel for healing. I have studied Tai Chi and
Chi Gong for over nine years and studied many mind/body gurus and scientists from Deepak Chapra to Ken Wilber to Candace Pert
to Bruce Lipton to Eckhart Tolle, and on and on. I presently serve on two non-profit boards. I look for connections among
people and in all we learn from each other... and I find them everywhere. We have the answers within us... we just don't always
have a way of calling them up exactly when we need them... without connecting with someone else who will support us along
the journey. I am so pleased to have been called to support others in this beautiful journey. What a joy it is every time
a new client makes a breakthrough and sees his or her truth!!!

Our Philosophy
WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT?
When you work with Carol you can expect to turn tolerations into transformations...
You can expect to develop more fulfilling relationships by revealing the belief window you use in relationships, challenging
these beliefs to see if they are really what you know to be true, and learning how to be a different observer of yourself
and others.
You can expect to love what you do everyday. You do not have to just tolerate your professional work or your personal
life. You can transform how you work and relate with others and/or move into new ways of being that satisfy the real you.
You can expect to enjoy relating to all kinds of people. You will learn simple ways to honor who you are and connect more
authentically with even the people with whom you struggle to feel good about. You will actually learn ways to affect your
emotions and thus your thinking and what you say even in difficult situations.
You can expect to live life the way you know it could... should... ought to be. You will view the world and your relationship
to it from the core of your life purpose... why you are here. You will declare what will actualize this purpose and live it.
WHAT ARE OUR GUIDING BELIEFS?
You were given gifts in this life that you are here to give back to the Universe. You know them... they are what give
you joy in living, those things that bring others to you. Sometimes we ignore these gifts and choose to fill our time doing
or relating in ways that don't use them. Coaching can get us back in touch with these gifts so we are using them at least
80% of the time in all our relationships in this Universe.
You have the answers within you. Transformational coaching is about asking the questions that support you in finding the
way of being in this world that is optimal for the uniqueness that is you.
Your way of being in your body affects who you are, what emotions you experience, and what language you think and say.
Working with all three components of yourself transforms how you connect with the universe.
WHAT IS MY APPROACH?
I am fully present with you in every session. I can only be of service to you if I am listening to what you are saying
in body, emotions, and language. My job is to listen with all my senses so the questions come forth that will challenge you
to observe yourself as you really are. This is what will lead to transformations.
I call you forth to be a big as you are... to greatness. I am bold in my questioning and never hesitate to challenge you
to discover new learnings about yourself and how you live your life. I require that you participate in homework practices
(of your choice) between sessions that lead you to new understandings. I support you in making declarations and affirmations
around your transformations... and hold you to them.
I am flexible in how our coaching happens. We do 80% of our sessions by phone, usually three times per month. Because
I believe in the uniqueness of each of you, we know that some of you want weekly sessions and others prefer every other week.
Those who live nearby may prefer to come to my office. I listen to what you want and work to make that happen.
I only work with you if you are committed to transformational coaching and hold our sessions as the highest priority.
Of course life happens, but I have found that when a person is often late for sessions or asks repeatedly to reschedule, that
person is not yet ready to transform her life.
I abide by the International Coaching Federation Code of Ethics (click on the link below). This code includes a high respect
for confidentiality and working with you only in my areas of expertise.
WHAT IS THE CHF ADVANTAGE?
Experience, experience, experience: I am in my fifth decade; I have lived life and had many, many opportunities for growing.
I am a lifelong learner. My thirty years as a public educator (20 years in administration) and as an international educational
consultant in "learning how to learn" and brain compatible learning environments, have added greatly to my understanding
of how we grow, learn, and change over time... or not. My spiritual search has led me down many paths and has added greatly
to my understanding of life and how to relate to people as unique beings in this universe. I incorporate the latest brain
research in learning and living which led to my study of ontological coaching with Newfield Network. Ontology is the study
of "being" and this type of transformational coaching involves the coherence of the body, emotions, and language.
Incorporation of body work into coaching: I am a student of Tai Chi and other spiritual and body practices. I am a Reiki
Master/Teacher and have studied Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) which I incorporate into my personal coaching when requested.
My understanding of the importance of the body in the transformation of how one lives his or her life adds greatly to the
practices I can offer to her clients.
